Announcing Zendesk’s App Builder early access program

We’re thrilled to announce an early access program (EAP) for a new and powerful way to build apps with Zendesk.

What is App Builder?

Zendesk has developed a no-code app builder, powered by generative AI. This innovative feature will empower admins like you to create custom apps without the need for developer resources, making it faster and more cost-effective than ever to tailor your Zendesk experience to your unique business needs. Through the App Builder, you can:

  • Iteratively build apps through a chat-based UI
  • Build your app to utilize data from Zendesk, your own company data, and/or from 3rd party platforms such as Shopify, Jira, and more
  • Visually preview the app live in your Zendesk environment as you build it
  • Publish and deploy the app or pass the generated app file to developers for further refinement

Who can participate in the EAP?

The EAP is now open for registration. Please fill out this form to register and join the waitlist. The team will be turning on access to the feature on a weekly rolling basis.

The ability to add the App to the profile sidebar is necessary. Is  this being considered?

@rebecca17 yes, new app locations are in scope for App Builder future releases (GA and beyond). We'll take your feedback here into consideration on what locations will be prioritized and keep you updated.

I've never build an app and don't have coding experience (outside of copy/paste from chatGPT). With this EAP in <10 minutes I just created my first app to link previously created ticket that are not incident/problem tickets… it's working… I'm blown away. I am not an actor and I was not paid for this testimony. Super excited to continue to test this!

If I wanted to create an app that incorporates a PDF or other documentation I could upload, how would I go about doing that? Currently I don't see the option to do so but it would be a great feature.

I could copy and paste information from a document but a bigger concern is privacy of this data. Are there any statements regarding how this bot is being trained and if that data is secure?

The new App Builder limit of 5 active conversations is restrictive and counterproductive for real development workflows.

Published apps should not be counted as active conversations. Once an app is published, it should be considered finalized and independent of the conversation that created it. Treating published apps as active prevents users from maintaining multiple apps, testing new ideas, or making minor adjustments without deleting existing work.

This limitation is especially problematic because it affects the current format of the App Builder. Users may be forced to delete existing conversations before creating or updating an app, with no way to restore or reference previous versions once deleted. This effectively blocks ongoing maintenance and version control for apps created within Zendesk.

We suggest separating:

  • Published apps → do not count toward the limit
  • Drafts or ongoing builds → count as active conversations

This change would make the App Builder more practical, scalable, and usable for all users.
