Guide Articles - export to PDF

It would be beneficial for Zendesk to provide an option or button for end users and/or agents to download articles to PDF. This is helpful for job aids and learners that prefer a hard copy, in-sight, at their working area.

The third-party applications and API options were either difficult to set up or did not work.

Thanks!

Hi 421173984174
Thank you very much for your feedback. We are not actively working on any article export features for Guide at the moment but we'd like to improve this area in the future, therefore, I've logged your case and I hope to come back to it in some time.

This is a functionality I am looking for as well.

  • October 22, 2021

This seems to be a common request.

We also would like an option to export our guide to PDF for customers that require hard copy or are not on the internet.

Hey @angie14,

If you have a need to produce offline manuals for customers, you may want to look at tools like Paligo or MadCap Flare which are technical documentation tools that specialize in producing offline documentation and have integrations with Zendesk Guide.

Otherwise, you can always create a special print stylesheet in your theme that would enable customers to save pages as a PDF easily. Just another idea.

I'm looking this option as well as we are thinking to have manuals in Help Center but the requirement is to create pdf with different pages (articles) -- collection of pages to be pdf. I would prefer this to be done by Zendesk and not to pay more of some third party solution.

Is there an ETA to this feature?

Hi Sanobar -

I don't believe this is on our roadmap at this time. We'll update this thread if that changes.

Upvoting this and following as it would be very useful to have.

Upvoting this and following this request. It would be a great addition to our docs.

Also following, we need this.

Following this. A simple ability to export to PDF is not just a nice add-on. It's a necessity. Could draw my business elsewhere if not offered again.

@erika31 I've just implemented this feature in the Help Center Manager app.

@sorin11 - Did that plugin make it possible for your end-users to export articles to PDF or just your agents? I am looking for a solution that will give the end-user a PDF of the article they are looking at.

@brandon47 the plugin only allows team members to export articles to PDF

Is it just me or does this seem like a no-brainer feature to have an export to PDF option on each article for the end-user? Does anyone know if other help center software offers this type of feature? It is a very common end-user request and one that isn't very scalable to support manually. Right now I have to:

  1. Create an article in google docs
  2. Export to PDF
  3. Create an article in Zendesk
  4. Attach PDF from step 2 to Zendesk Article
  5. Repeat for any edits

Maintaining the article in two places when there has to be a pretty straightforward software solution so that we only have to do step 3 is quite frustrating.

@brandon47 any modern browser should have a "Save as PDF" option when trying to print a web page (press Ctrl+P). Could this be a way for your customers to export an article to PDF?

Brandon47

Thank you @sorin11. Yes, that is the solution right now. But a printed webpage often doesn't look like a formatted PDF with the same information. I would say this is very much about how it makes us look when we ask them to use features of other software (browser) to meet their needs and about how the resulting PDF looks. Right now it looks like a printed webpage, not something that was formatted nicely for the PDF format itself.

We work with an audience that doesn't need to use their software on a daily basis.
We always create short tutorials that we make accessible in ZenDesk.
Many of these users like to have a printed onepager in hand to get started.
A printed web page is absolutely not an option for us. It looks very unprofessional.
So currently we have more or less double duty to make a PDF of every ZenDesk article.
We work in a country where Dutch, French and English are common spoken languages among our users. So this is a huge workload for us.

@andy22 and @brandon47

at the moment the Help Center Manager app can help with step 1 and 2 - you can get the PDF export straight away, without copying pasting into google docs.

But I think there might be a solution to streamline this, or even automate the whole process. You can get in touch via the contact form on my website to discuss more.

Man this feature would be helpful. We'd no longer have to maintain documents that must be sent to people outside the organization (such as candidates). Today the browser print feature does not output a PDF polished enough for us to use.

  • January 23, 2023

Now Jan 2023. Would love to see article export to .pdf, or copy articles between brand Help Centers implemented. This is a common theme for users.

+1 - we've been hoping this would be on the roadmap by now, as the third-party app that seemed like a good candidate was not approved internally for installation. Would be great to have this functionality built into Zendesk.

Can anyone at Zendesk provide an update if this is something that we will see soon?

Katarzyna Karpinska

@diane20, this improvement is not on our most immediate roadmap at the moment.
